Grace and Truth
Have you heard the age old expression, “Love the sinner, but hate the sin.” Well, the new teaching in some Christian circles is "love the sinner and the sin." The argument goes like this: if you don't embrace the person, sin and all, you are not really expressing the love of God to them. Hmm. Does that really coincide with Scripture? Does God love the sinner and his sin? No. God loves the sinner even in his sin (that describes all of us), but He hates the sin. Habakkuk 1:13 tells us, "Your eyes are too pure to approve evil." You see, God is holy and calls those who follow Him to be holy, too. In our day and age, some who claim the name of Jesus are subtly working to turn the grace of God into a license to sin (see Jude 1:4). But it is dangerous to separate God's grace from God's truth. Jesus was full of both. That is why we must never jettison truth in favor of grace. Both are needed for salvation and holiness. And truth is desperately needed in these last days when people want to embrace myths and hear only a feel-good message. Embrace God’s grace and His truth … because their you’ll find real hope.
