Power Failures

The Christian life is a life of power. Jesus said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” (Acts 1:8). Hmm. If we have power from the Holy Spirit, why do we often feel so powerless? Why do we have power failures in the Christian life? Three likely reasons. Number One. We stray from the Lord. Jesus said, “For apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). I often pray, “Lord, keep me clean and keep me close.” Number 2. We waver in unbelief. When the disciples asked Jesus why they could not cast out the demon-possessed boy in Matthew 17 He said, “Because of the littleness of your faith” (Matthew 17:20). Number 3. We neglect prayer. Jesus went on to say to his disciples, “This kind of demon cannot come out by anything but prayer.” A poor prayer life reveals a self-sufficiency that is destined for failure. I want to encourage you to stay close to Jesus, trust in Him, and devote yourself to prayer … that is where you’ll find Real Hope.
