Father of Lies

Jesus said the devil is “a liar, and the father of lies” (John 8:44). Satan works overtime to try to get us to believe lies. And his lies are easy to believe, because they seemed to match up with our feelings. For example, when you mess up BIG TIME and sin against God, the devil is quick to tell you that the Lord doesn’t love you anymore. How could He, given the terrible thing you just did? And your guilt-ridden feelings agree with that lie. But the truth from Romans 8:38-39 is this: nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. No sin, no sorrow, no setback. Nothing! The cross of Christ proves His great love for you and me. When you and I fully believe the truth that we are unconditionally loved, then we are set free to love God back and to obey His Word. We no longer view His commands as restrictions on our life, but we see them as loving reminders of what is good for us and what is not good. Let me encourage you to believe the truth and reject the lies. When you do, you’ll experience real hope.
